I got the word yesterday that my song September Me is a finalist for the 2023 USA Songwriting Competition in the Folk Category. The winners will be announced on Nov. 22, and there are some great songwriters on the list. I’m honored to have made it this far. Below is the Folk finalist list, if you’d like to make yourself a playlist, and if you want to see the whole thing, that’s here.
FOLK
“Rise with the Dawn” by Karen Ballew & The Deer’s Cry
“This Is the Good News” by Grant Peeples
“Don’t Be Discouraged” by Peter Lehndorff
“Revival” by Maggie McClure, Shane Henry, Stephen Gause & Nathan Angelo (THE IMAGINARIES)
“Lavender Moonshine” by Tret Fure
“September Me” by David LaMotte
“On a Dying Day” by Emily Pinkerton & The Early Mays
“Ashes and Dust” by Josh Evington & The Hues
“Northern Girl” by Maggie Pope
“Temptation” by Dave Nachmanoff
Excited to see what happens on Nov. 22, but regardless, this is affirming. Thanks for celebrating with me!
Update:
I didn’t win, but I’m truly honored to have been a finalist. Big congratulations to William H Carpenter & Abby Posner who won the overall grand prize for their song, Get Loud. Abby is my agent-mate (…?), as she and I are both booked by Baker Booking. 🙂 And also to Maggie McClure, Shane Henry, Stephen Gause & Nathan Angelo (The Imaginaries), who won the Folk Category for their song, Revival.
Now back to writing more songs. 🙂
