In this dense and fast-moving season, for me and for the world, I am far behind on catching folks up with the news in my own life. It has been an extraordinary summer and fall — and year, for that matter. In the midst of so much going on, though, there have been some moments that have stood out. One of those was my trip to Erie, Pennsylvania to speak at Gannon University, as part of the Jefferson Educational Society’s Global Forum series.
The event took place in the historic Warner Theater (of Warner Brothers fame), and they took great care of me. Gannon University chose my book as their 2025-2026 Freshman Read selection in the Gannon READS program, and presented each student with a copy at their first convocation, as well as wrapping it into their required First Year seminar class.
It is a beautiful venue, and the students were engaged. And, of course, it was quite something to be a part of this lineup:
I also did some workshops in smaller groups on campus, with students, professors, and staff. At one point, someone showed me their copy of the book. I love to see one that is well-worn, with lots of pages marked. 🙂 It was really fun to see folks with the specially printed version of the book with Gannon’s logo on the front, as well.
Having my book chosen as a campus read selection was truly a dream come true for me, and I hope it will open the door to other similar opportunities. If you want to explore possibilities along those lines, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
