My friend Chinobay and I have formed a band, Esaze, and we are having so much fun writing and playing together. More importantly, the music we are making seems to be landing powerfully in people’s hearts. In a time of so much division and rancor, it feels particularly good to be celebrating difference and modeling some of the good that can come from it.
If all goes well, we will leave for Kenya on November 29 to spend three weeks making an album with an all-African band (with the exception of me, of course). We will rent a big band house and rehearse every day for a week, then we will spend two weeks in a beautiful studio capturing all of the magic that we can. Our favorite recording engineer, Chris Rosser, will travel with us from North Carolina, and the rest of the core band will travel up from Uganda. We will also take advantage of Nairobi’s rich music scene and have some great guest artists join us.
The record will come out in the spring of 2027, and I couldn’t be more excited about it. We plan to tour in Europe, Africa, and N. America, and we can’t wait to come play for you.
