Deanna, Mason and I lived in Andhra Pradesh, India for three months in late 2009 and early 2010. I was working for a Gandhian integrated development organization called Arthik Samata Mandal as field study for the degree I was working on in Australia. I was studying at the University of Queensland as a Rotary World Peace Fellow, working toward a masters in International Relations, Peace and Conflict Resolution.
When we arrived, Mason was 13 months old and had a two-word vocabulary. His third word was not in English, but Telugu—”babu,” which means baby boy. “Gandhi” was one of his first ten words.
We lived primarily in Srikakulam, a small village about an hour and a half from the town of Vijayawada, and there in Vijayawada when we came to town. I shot over 4000 ‘keeper’ pictures while we were there, so getting it down to fewer than 100 was challenging. I hope you enjoy flipping through them.
