Just call me Perfesser.
In March and April I will be teaching a one-credit class on songwriting for Lenoir-Rhyne’s Master’s in Writing program. Though I’ve taught many songwriting classes over the years, this is the first at a graduate level, and I’m tremendously excited about it. It’s also open to the public.
The course will consist of an online component in March, where I will explore some of the craft of songwriting through articles, videos, songs that illustrate various techniques, and lots of discussion through a dedicated forum for the class. This part of the class will be asynchronous, so participants can check in on their own schedules, from wherever they are in the world.
On April 5 we will gather in person at Lenoir-Rhyne’s satellite campus in Asheville, NC. The morning session will run from 10AM to 12PM, and the afternoon session will be from 12:30 to 5:30. That evening, I will have a concert in town, and class participants will be admitted without charge. If there are distance learning participants, they will be able to Skype in to the class.
Registration is $235. For more information about me and/or the class, and for registration information, click here.
Hope to see you soon! Here are a few more thoughts and details…

Dear David LaMotte,
You must be a very busy man, but I loved so much what you said on the video. I have a request. Most of my life I lived in the jungle of Papua NewGuinea among cannibals/level of stone age. When we came back to Germany I was 70 years old. My husband divorced me, because he found another wife after 42 years of marriage. That night, when he told me, I got up sat at the keyboard and wrote a songs. Before I tried and never could. That is 3 years ago, since than I wrote songs. All I want so much is, that a musician listens to a song and tell me whether its ok. I don’t know much about music-theory. We are 3 authors in the family, my book became a best seller. But my daughter Sabine wrote a world-best-seller. Hollywood made a movie about my family. Junglechild , is also in YouTube. Would it be possible to have 1 hour with a music-teacher? I need to know how to make it better, what to change ectr. I would be sooo thankful. With greetings, Doris Kuegler
