Here’s a new song I wrote in the last few minutes of April, 2021. Here in Western North Carolina, the trees and flowers and mountains themselves seem to be coming alive again, just as vaccines become more common and new possibilities emerge for people to safely gather again.
The stories in the song are true. About six months ago we moved, though just one mile from our old home, so that my father-in-law could move in with us. He’s in declining health and it was a good idea to be under the same roof, though the house has a little apartment attached, so he still has some independence and space to himself.
It has been extraordinary watching the yard come alive, having moved in the winter when everything looked dead. And that seems to mirror how so many people around me are feeling. Like spring, it can be hard to trust, but spring does always follow winter, and though all life leads to death, all death leads back to life, as well, in the natural cycle of things. So here’s to coming alive again.
Big thanks to my Patreon community (a.k.a. the LaMottely Crew). This song almost certainly would not exist without them. Part of what I promise that group is a new song every month. I share them publicly much later, when they are a bit more polished, but the Patreon folks get a brand new song every month, whether it’s polished or not. We also gather for regular Zoom hangouts and there are various other perks. If you’d like to join us, you are most welcome! Here’s more info on Patreon, and here’s the link to sign up.
May we come alive, again and again.
Peace,
David

I heard your song for the first time recently on a local folk radio program. Great song. I’m hoping to play it at an open mic this weekend. Are you in open tuning? Sounds like the key of G. Any help here? Thanks.

Hi Larry – honored. If you get a chance to shoot a phone video, I’d love to hear your version. And yes, you called it: open G. Let me know if anything about it stumps you. I suspect you’ll figure it out. 🙂

Hey Elaine! Wonderful! Do call tomorrow morning at 9 Eastern if you can, since there are only a few slots left. If you want to room with Carol, that makes it easier, as the only issue is that we are running out of room! All the info is here: http://www.davidlamotte.com/comingaliveagain See you in October!
